    0= none.

    1=whisper, soft voice, speaking only with those very near you

    2= conversational, calm, may include students a row away

    3= presentational, moderately loud, enough so the entire class can hear you

    4=loud, cafeteria volume

    5= very loud, outdoor, football game,

    We are all getting accustomed to 50 minutes classes.  I have laid out a plan for each day however please be flexible if the plan is modified as the year progresses.  Here is what I envision for our year:

    Monday: vocabulary, reading, and culture, (good news/bad news)

    Tuesday: grammar, note taking, oral and written practice

     Wednesday: no English day, lots of oral and auditory work (good news/bad news target language only)

     Thursday: review & quiz

    Friday: alternately audio, video, media day/ test day (good news/bad news)

    Most days should include four segments:

    1.       bell ringer

    2.       instruction, notes, or presentation

    3.       practice

    4.       closing task

    All students are expected to have the necessary class supplies each day: paper, “cahier”, pen (blue or black) or a sharp pencil.  Students are to remain seated unless they have received permission or directions to get out of their seat.  All bags shall be placed along the back wall or behind the demo desk.

     How to enter the room.

    Entering the room voice is no more than 2.  Each day students will place cell phones or IPods in the pouch that corresponds to their seat.   [ Should you elect to not observe this expectation and your device is seen by me during class it will be confiscated and surrendered to the appropriate AP office at the end of the day*.  This is your warning, do not expect another.] Next get out your supplies then stow your bags at the back of the room.  Quietly and without touching the possessions of others, get a book from the shelf.  Go directly back to your seat and begin the bell work/ opening task.

    Remember when transitioning from one aspect of class to another your voice should be a 1; no more than a whisper or hushed tones with students remaining seated.

    How to leave class at the end of class:

    Students will return textbooks to the shelf in the same manner as getting them.  At the upper school books are placed on the shelf vertically with the spine facing out.  Complete your closing task, collect your bags and devices, check around your desk for debris and stray possessions, and wait for the teacher to dismiss you.

    How to leave the room during class:

    Please wait for a transition within the lesson to ask permission to leave the room.  Only true emergencies should interrupt the presentation or in class practice.  Raise your hand, have your restroom pass ready, ask in the target language, sign out on the hall log include times and date every time!  Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of hall privileges.  Restroom passes not used will be worth 5 euros de bonne conduite.

    How to ask or answer a question:

    Raise your hand, maintain voice of zero, wait until you are called on, answer or ask with a voice of three.

    Grading policy:

    There will be a minimum of eight daily and two test grades per marking period.  All missing work will be recorded as zero until that work is submitted.  Late work will be treated in accordance with the CISD policy: one day late results in 10% reduction of grade earned, two days late 50% reduction.  No late work will be accepted after it is 5 days late.

    Example 1: On Tuesday an assignment is begun in class and is due the same day.  You need extra time to finish it overnight.  You turn it in Wednesday as soon as you arrive in class.  It will be considered on time and there is no penalty.  If, however, you use class time on Wednesday to complete the work, the grade will be reduced by 10%.  The 10% penalty is in effect until the end of the day*.  If the work is not submitted until Thursday there will be a 50% penalty assessed.  The last day that the work will be accepted for credit is Tuesday of the next week; five class days after it was assigned.

    Example 2: You have the flu and miss three days of school (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday).  During that time we took one daily and one test grade.  All work is due on the third day after your return and receive that work from me. [You come back on Monday; the work is due by Thursday.] So long as this work is missing it will be entered as zero in the grade book.  You will receive full credit when the work is completed and submitted on time.  You will be penalized only if it is late.  Work missed due to absence will NOT be completed during class time.

    *I will leave NCHS each day between 1:30 and 2:00.  I will not be available after school this year.
